[LinuxSIG] laptop not booting at meeting, issues resolved

After doing several updates prior to the meeting,
the reboot failed the morning of. The laptop is a
Dell Inspiron Linux Mint XFCE (Jammy)

1- blank screen with no grub menu
Intel i915 video misbehaving?
adding
GRUB_GFXMODE=1366x768 (default resolution of display)
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i915.modeset=0" (possible does the same thing)
resolved the issue

2-Default grub choice wouldn't boot without going through rescue mode.
BIOS/UEFI strangeness, somehow SDA1 (USB drive,installed Linux with 
swap on eMMC)
was the 5th choice in the BIOS UEFI menu. I don't recall ever making 
that selection
and the system had worked fine for 8(?)months.
Promoting it to first choice solved the issue.

All is well again.
