All,<br>
<br>
A few days ago Rachael of Q college sent the following email
to Craig and I.<br>
<br>
Good evening Gentlemen,<br>
<br>
I was wondering if anyone you know or if you are
interested<br>
in being a subject matter expert for Q College as we
are adding to new<br>
programs to our list.<br>
<br>
<br>
We are considering responding with the following, but before
we do are any of you interested in being a Subject Matter
Expert for Q College. <br>
If you are let us know and we will send you more details.<br>
<br>
Cheers<br>

Draft<br>
<br>
This looks like an awesome program. It also looks very
intensive. It will certainly get folks that dedicate
themselves up to speed <br>
quickly. A lot to accomplish in a year. And it's doable.
The Camosun Information and Computer Systems program is about
the same <br>
intensity. The Camosun program has a 1 year and 2 year
stream.<br>
<br>
I'm not sure how much I can be of assistance. I have been
away from Camosun for almost 5 years and have not really been
keeping up with the <br>
needs and best practices and coding standards in the industry.
Especially security. I have been too busy learning about and
playing with <br>
micro controllers, Raspberry Pi's and the Internet of
Things. All for my own amusement without any regard for what
the customers or <br>
industry needs. I can though tell you the temperature and
humidity in several places in my house and yard from most
anywhere in the world. <br>
Not that I can go anywhere in the world right now. I also have
control of many of the lights in my yard and house. Again
from anywhere. <br>
Even the Christmas lights.<br>
<br>
But as much as I enjoy doing this I don't know if my current
"expertise" will be of too much use.<br>
<br>
I did teach an intro to operating systems course using the
McHoes and Flynn text. Good textbook. I have some knowledge
of web development <br>
and servers. I have also taught an Intro to Computers course
using the Shelly Cashman books. Terrible text. If you have
a choice, take a <br>
look at D is for Digital, Brian Kernighan. <br>

ISBN 9781530896363. Or perhaps his <br>
newer book Understanding the Digital World <a

rel="noreferrer" target="_blank"><a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://kernighan.com/udw.html">http://kernighan.com/udw.html</a></a>
I have not read the second of these. The first I have.<br>
<br>
I would like to help if I can. I think my role would best be
to perhaps answer questions and have the occasional second
opinion that others <br>
who are more current can evaluate.<br>
<br>
Craig is retired, and unable to work for money at this time,
due to IRS restrictions on his US Social Security pension.
That said, his work <br>
experiences is in Software Development, and computer
networking, more specifically, Carrier Grade Networking.
Although the basic nuts and <br>
bolts of networking remain the same, his skills lack the finer
details of Windows host network configuration, and may also
not be much use <br>
as a SME. Though, like me I'm sure he would be willing to
help and answer questions.<br>
<br>
Let me know what you think.<br>
<br>
Take care<br>
